Discover the art of creating flowers on water through the centuries-old tradition of Turkish Ebru.
Floral Ebru: Turkish Marbling Projects* is a comprehensive practical guide to classical Turkish marbling, structured around the traditional icazet curriculum—the programme of training through which an apprentice progresses towards receiving formal authorisation from their master.
The book is written by master and apprentice, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Sacit Açıkgözoğlu and Dilara Karaağaç**. Karaağaç trained under Açıkgözoğlu in this classical tradition and received her *icazet* from him. Their collaboration therefore reflects the same master–apprentice transmission through which the knowledge, discipline and techniques of Ebru have been preserved across generations.
Following the progression of the icazet curriculum, the Ebru book guides readers from the foundations of classical Ebru to increasingly sophisticated techniques. Through hundreds of detailed step-by-step photographs and clear instructions, readers learn traditional background patterns before progressing to classical Ebru flowers created on water, including tulips, carnations, hyacinths, poppies, violets and daisies.
The Ebru book then moves into more advanced practices, including multi-stem floral compositions, bouquets, Hatib patterns, Akkase and Murakka, while also explaining the materials, tools and essential principles required for successful Ebru practice.
More than a collection of individual projects, the Ebru book presents the **traditional pathway of classical Ebru training in a practical and accessible form**. Designed to be followed and practised at the marbling tray, it carries a living artistic tradition from master to apprentice—and, through this book, to a new generation of practitioners.
