The calligraphy in the artwork is called as ‘Musenna Calligraphy’. Musenna means ‘two parts or two folded’. This style of calligraphy is also called as mirror calligraphy. This artwork is a great example of a symmetrically arranged calligraphy.

The calligraphy in this artwork is Double Waw. Calligraphers, especially in Ottoman Era, especially attached great importance to the double way. In the written Double waw is an ornamental art developed by Ottoman calligraphers in the 17th century. In the Abjad calculation, waw is the equivalent of the number 6. Double ‘waw’ means 66, which correspondes to the name of Allah in Abjad.

Initially, the calligrapher (who is unknown) wrote this calligraphy on the cardboard and the illuminator, Sema Yurtseven, has uniquely decorated this harmonious and coherent illumination art. In the original artwork, real gold is used for the yellow parts you see here.

The artwork is made on a real kid leather.
