Hüve’l-Bâkī – Original Turkish Calligraphy and Illumination Artwork

“Hüve’l-Bâkī” – “Only Allah is Everlasting.”**

Hüve’l-Bâkī is a traditional Islamic expression derived from *Al-Bāqī* (The Everlasting), one of the 99 names of Allah (*Asma ul-Husna*). It reminds us of Allah’s eternal existence and supreme power, while reflecting upon the temporary nature of human life and our mortality. Traditionally inscribed on Ottoman tombstones, this expression conveys the belief that everything in this world is transient and only Allah remains eternal.

This artwork brings together three classical Turkish art forms: **calligraphy (hat), illumination (tezhib) and miniature painting**.

The central calligraphy, created by renowned calligrapher **Fuat Başar**, is surrounded by an intricate and harmonious illumination designed and meticulously executed by **Dr. Sema Yurtseven**. The composition features traditional Ottoman floral and geometric motifs in rich shades of blue, red and green, enhanced with **genuine gold**, which has been carefully applied to the illuminated details.

At the top of the composition, a delicate miniature depiction of the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) resting place within Al-Masjid an-Nabawi in Medina completes the artwork. This meaningful detail creates a visual connection between the spiritual message of Hüve’l-Bâkī and the Prophet Muhammad, regarded in Islamic tradition as the highest example of devotion and submission to Allah.

Every element has been thoughtfully composed to achieve harmony between the calligraphy, illumination and miniature, reflecting the refinement, symbolism and centuries-old craftsmanship of classical Turkish book arts.
